Instructions
In a large shallow bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, cardamom, vanilla extract and a pinch of salt.
In a large nonstick skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Dip the bread, one slice at a time, in the egg mixture.
Place 3 slices in the skillet; cook 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown. Repeat with remaining bread slices. Dust with powdered sugar and serve immediately with additional butter and maple syrup or jam, preserves, fresh berries and whipped cream.
Notes
To serve the French toast all at once, transfer the first batch to a baking sheet and keep warm in a 200 degree oven while the second batch cooks.
