¼cupsemisweet chocolate chips or chopped chocolate
½teaspoonpure vanilla extract
Instructions
Place milk and crushed cardamom in a medium saucepan. Heat over medium low until just steaming, stirring occasionally. Turn off the heat and let the mixture steep for 10-15 minutes. Strain the milk into a container and return the cardamom-infused milk to the saucepan. Discard the cardamom seeds.
Add the cocoa powder, sugar and a pinch of salt to the milk. Heat over medium-low, whisking frequently until warm (but not boiling). Add chocolate and whisk constantly until the chocolate chips melt and distribute evenly into the milk. Whisk in vanilla extract, serve immediately.
Notes
To make in advance, simply let the mixture cool and store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Before reheating, give the mixture a good whisk, and whisk again to recombine before serving.
